The purpose of this law is to combat all forms of violence against women and girls in the Republic of Benin.Through its criminal, civil and social components, it aims to provide a multidisciplinary response to violence against women and girls.Violence against women is defined, under the terms of this law, as all acts of violence directed against the female sex and causing or likely to cause physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including the threat of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether in public or private life.The violations concern:- Physical or moral, sexual and psychological violence carried out within the family such as beatings, marital rape, sexual assault and abuse, female genital mutilation as provided for by law 2003-03 of March 3, 2003 relating to repression of the practice of female genital mutilation in the Republic of Benin, forced or arranged marriages, “honor” killings and other traditional practices harmful to women.- Physical or moral, sexual and psychological violence carried out within the community including rape, sexual assault and abuse, sexual harassment as provided for by the 2006 law-19 of September 5, 2006 relating to the repression of sexual harassment and the protection of victims in the Republic of Benin and intimidation at work, in educational establishments and other places, pimping, trafficking, forced prostitution.Under this law, the fact, for a medical or paramedical agent, of not providing a woman with all due diligence during childbirth, or of refrain from fulfilling his professional duty.This law is to the attention- the national institute for the advancement of women- oppressed women- from the Ministry of Justice- from the Ministry of Family, Social Protection and Family Affairs (MFPSS)- from civil society- from the European Union (resident mission) - populations of Benin- human rights non-governmental organizations (NGOs)- international organizations - deputies- magistrates- lawyers- law students- embassies- etc.---Data source The Laws proposed by TOSSIN are extracted from files from the Benin government website (sgg.gouv.bj).
